fair 'nuff! the class i took did cover music theory, but i think my struggle is maybe that i overcomplicate the concepts for myself. i always have issues with perfectionism when i'm creating stuff so its very likely i need to just take a step back and study a bit more
Just listening to a whole bunch of music genres and keeping an open mind helps a whole lot. also basics of music theory helps a whole lot and practice practice practice

addendum #2 but like. argh!!! cause specifically, inspiration-wise, i want to make stuff that sounds akin to FFXIII, Xenoblade 1, YS VI, and Bravely Default (so very jrpg type sounds but with, a specific sound to them) and its like argh... i used to have the potential
question for the musicians here: how do you guys get into a good mindset for music?
i've been playing around with DAWs for several years because i've wanted to make music for my own video games and for a while i used to be able to just let loose and make things out of passion, but after taking some classes in high school (a while back) i haven't been able to get that same motivation anymore. i think it's probably cause our music teacher was kinda elitist and buns but any tips?
